Le Pho (1907–2001) was a prominent Vietnamese artist renowned for blending traditional Vietnamese aesthetics with Western painting techniques. Born in Hanoi, then part of French Indochina, he came from a family of elite status, with his father serving as a high-ranking official under the French colonial administration. He received his foundational art education at the École Professionnelle de Hanoi before enrolling in the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine in 1925, where he studied under French artist Victor Tardieu and was exposed to both European academic methods and Vietnamese traditional arts like silk painting and lacquerware.
